Updating and initial configuration for server-01

Create a new virtual instance using the “dgsi-template” VM template

You will have to adapt your initial VM to turn it into a secure information server. So, carry out the required tasks as follows:

1. Update the system from debian repositories:

   • Configure apt tools to use the “non-free” and “contrib” components.

   • Upgrade it.

2. Install additional software:

   • Text editor: vim

   • Text paginator: less

   • Sync tool: rsync

   • Web download tool: wget

   • Monitor and config tool: htop, net-tools, resolvconf

   • Software build package: build-essential

   • Additional (extra) system manuals: manpages-es-extra

3. Fix the local timezone:

   • Europe/Madrid

4. Configure the local user space:

   • Set the root password (1)

   • Create a new local standard user (cheking tasks)

5. SSH connections:

   • Allow ssh login for the root user (password)
